Hello
Seeking volunteers to help understand how companion animals feature in a relationship breakdown.
A bit about me and what my study is about
Companion animals (or pets) have found their way into the homes, and hearts of many households. Sadly, pets often outlast human relationships and the term "pet custody" is now commonly used to describe arrangements made for pets when a relationship ends.
However, little is actually known about the process or how couples determine the fate of their pets and the mental health implications of losing a beloved pet to an ex-partner.

I am interested in shining a spotlight on this area, with the hope that this project will provide valuable information for people experiencing this, as well as start a conversation that will result in meaningful change for individuals, as well as pets.
If you or someone you know has lost ownership of a furry companion following a separation, I would love to hear from you.
People's lived experience is essential in furthering how issues related to pet custody are understood. Participation will require about 1 hour of someone's time and all information is strictly confidential. Interviews can be done face-to-face for those located in Perth, WA or over the phone.
